OK, here’s how it’s going to play out…

Pretty soon KJA is going to announce that he and Brian are getting together to “brainstorm” the next McDune book. (Or, for variation, he may wait until AFTER they’ve met, and announce it as a done deal.) Either way, when it’s all said and done, he’ll probably try and portray the upcoming series change as something THEY decided on their own, like he did with the Jessica of Dune title change. He may even spin it like Byron was apparently playing at doing the other day on Facebook: as something coming in response to fan feedback, a bit of fan service like Frank Herbert gave when he brought Duncan back from the dead, because hey, these people nothing if not all about servicing the fans, huh? (Of course, in a way, it would be true that the series-midway about-face is a reaction: Even the McDune fanboys didn’t dutifully line up and buy Paul of Dune and Winds like they were supposed to. If that’s not feedback from THEIR fans, I don’t know what is!)
Presumably they won’t be able to postpone announcing which book they’ll be doing any longer once they’ve done the “brainstorming”.

You’re right, Chig, Keith will be going up north pretty damn soon to ‘brainstorm’ their next McDune offering. But I have doubts as to whether they know what the next after that will be, and when, or how they intend spinning any changes. Surely they can’t just scrap ‘Throne’, it has to be on hiatus, after all they’ve just set up all the elements for the story in Winds. To just come out and say ‘Heroes of Dune’ is dead in the water would make them look pretty damn stupid and totally clueless. And what would this do to the every-other-year schedule, alternating with Smellhole, that they’ve set out? Personally I think that schedule will go by the wayside as well, if they’re going to keep any interest in McDune, they’ll have to squirt out one a year as they have been doing all along.
So Tor have fucked up their carefully laid plans and the continued silence proves the hacks haven’t the faintest idea what to do, or say, about it. Should be amusing when they finally do…
The only time I’m actually entertained by their writing is when they are trying to spin negative information for their dimbulb fans.
Brian’s conditioning is probably slipping, thus KJA needs to re-hypnotize him.
